Pimpmygamercard.com began as a hobby as I learned and toyed with the GD Library within PHP to create dynamic images.Pimpmygamercard.com is an online image generator which produces a users Xbox Live statistics in a dynamic image - more often called a Gamercard.Pimpmygamercard.com offers more gamercard options than any other related website and even more tools that are not found anywhere else.Unfortunately, the website has now turned into a full time job as the nearest competition is a Microsoft endorsed XCDP website at mygamercard.net
The past couple of months, I have been writing a new version of the gamercard script to reduce resources and lessen the server load but it may not be enough.After observing statistics this year, the website just isnt turning enough profit to pay for the bandwidth and other resources that it uses.This, plus the constant attention and maintenance which the site often requires is pulling me away from developing more important, profitable websites.
Recently I was contacted by two different parties offering suggestions on how to continue the service to Xbox Live gamers while monetizing it.Monetizing any gaming related website is difficult since the majority of your users are kids barely scraping their allowance just to pay for their gamertag and the Live service.They dont understand the importance of advertising and view ads as simply an obstruction as they navigate a website.
One of the parties that recently contacted me is a programmer from Russia asking for assistance with his similar websites.This definitely interests me as Xbox support in Russia is very limited.I think it would be in the best interest to close down pimpmygamercard.com and continue development in the Russian gaming community.
My plans are to gradually remove content from pimpmygamercard beginning with the gamercards that have the least amount of usage.Any gamercards that are not being used will be removed immediately.It is yet unknown when this will begin as I plan to also replace these images with a follow through or advertisement of some sort to notify users of pending changes.
I apologize to all who wanted this website to continue and have heard many pleas and comments of other gamercard websites falling.But I have to weigh my options and cut my losses.
